Nearly 10,000 people from all corners of California have signed postcards sent to Governor Brown and key legislators in support of a budget solution that maintains current revenue streams to protect essential health care and human services programs and secure California’s recovery. Thousands of postcards included personal stories from Californians of all walks of life sharing how recent budget cuts have impacted them and their communities.

Writing from Palo Alto, one self-described “former welfare mother now with a Master’s degree” urged Governor Brown to “stand firm and insist on revenue increases, not more cuts in housing, healthcare, welfare, and other safety-net services that are needed now more than ever. As a grateful taxpayer, I am willing to do my part.” One man from a small town east of Sacramento, who needs help from his local food bank to survive, was worried that impending cuts to SSI will make it even harder for him to get by.
