If families, patients and especially the chronically ill in California had adequate access to quality, affordable, preventive health care, the California Chronic Care Coalition may not need to exist at all.

Unfortunately, however, chronic disease will continue to be a major public health challenge in the 21st century, especially in light of the newest cuts made to the state's health care safety net, Medi-Cal.

In late October, without input from medical providers or any engagement from the public, U.S. Health and Human Services officials approved yet another round of reductions to the reimbursements physicians and pharmacists receive in return for treating Medi-Cal enrollees.
