Introducing David Greenwald, New California Progress Report Editor

Welcome David M. Greenwald, the new editor of the California Progress Report. He takes the helm from Frank Russo, the founding editor of the online journal who has moved on to a new adventure as Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner’s Chief of Staff.

David is a prolific writer, keen observer, and participant in, politics in the Sacramento area. David received his Masters Degree in Political Science from UC Davis. He created The People’s Vanguard of Davis, the title being a a play on words and the common depiction of his home city “The People’s Republic of Davis.” This has developed over the years into a widely read local blogsite that investigates and reports the stories that the daily newspapers overlook. He has worked on campaigns for candidates in the Sacramento area and earlier in San Luis Obispo, where he earned his undergraduate degree from Cal Poly. In the past, David has contributed numerous articles to the California Progress Report.

Stay tuned to these pages and you’ll hear plenty more from David who will be live and on the ground in our Capitol in Sacramento and gathering stories from all around our state.

We live in a moment of tremendous economic distress, but one also ripe with possibility. As the house of cards erected by the outgoing administration in Washington is collapsing, Americans—and Californians—have decisively voted for hope and against fear.

This is a moment when progressive movements can achieve great breakthroughs in our state and in our nation. The California Progress Report is here to serve as a forum – and as a megaphone - for organizations working for progressive change in California and the region and to cover the news about California public policy and politics that a reduced mainstream media is unfortunately often not able to inform and explain in depth.
