Schwarzenegger Thinks Jerry Brown Has Best Shot at Being Next California Governor if Obama Wins Presidency
By Frank D. Russo
John Myers of KQED has a must read post with a juicy sound bite you can listen to from Governor Schwarzenegger as to who will be his likely successor as California’s next governor.
The remarks come from Schwarzenegger’s answers to some questions this morning at the American Magazine Conference being held in San Francisco. They may be spot on for what who will be elected but in the seeming assumption by the current Republican occupant of the office that he will be succeeded by a Democrat.
What Schwarzenegger said is that if Senator Dianne Feinstein enters the race, he thinks she wins. But he thinks Feinstein will only make a gubernatorial run if John McCain wins the election. If Obama wins the presidential race that Feinstein will want to remain in Washington, D.C. and then Jerry Brown will win—because he has been governor twice, “has worked his way back up again” and “he can bring Republicans and Democrats together.”
Schwarzenegger also described California State Insurance Commissioner, who has announced he is running for the Republican nomination as “up and coming,” but said he thought Brown would prevail.
Myers wrote “don't be surprised to see this snippet make waves quickly in the buzz of California politics.” He also reported on what the governor had to say to Sarah Palin when he phoned her right after she was picked as McCain’s running mate. Too bad there wasn’t a recording of that phone call.
