The Blockbuster Democracy blog is our site of the day
Joe Mathews, formerly a reporter for the Los Angeles Times and a treasure amongst the dwindling numbers of professional journalists covering California politics and public policy, has a blog which is especially chock full of facts, rumors, and analysis as we approach the May Revise of the California State Budget—within the hour.
Blockbuster Democracy, named after the title he wanted to call his excellent and insightful book “The People’s Machine” about Arnold Schwarzenegger (available for sale through the California Progress Report) is a site worth reading daily. You can subscribe to its daily content as an RSS feed.
This is how he describes his aim for this site:
“Blockbuster democracy is a decentralized business that practices wide-open politics. This blog aims to provide a center of news, analysis and conversation for and about the industry. We will report from blockbuster democracy’s capital -- California -- but we’ll monitor ballot measures from across the country and around the globe.”
Matthews, like a growing cadre of journalist is now blogging. He has covered California and initiative campaigns and other areas as a reporter for 13 years, and is a member of the Capitol Correspondents Association. He now is a senior fellow at New America Foundation. He continues to writes about California, its history, its politics and its government. He previously reported for the Wall Street Journal and Baltimore Sun, and his work has appeared in The New Republic and the Washington Post, among other places.
Check out his article today: Arnold Is "All In" On Budget Reform . You’ll see a lot of stuff here that doesn’t make it into today’s shrinking news hole about the state of California and important things that are going on. Plus he gets his stuff up early in the news cycle.
