OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS OF CITIZEN JOURNALISM VIDEO

By Benjamin Brown
Executive Producer
Project Spotlight/CNET Networks
Project Spotlight, a first-of-its-kind creative development program designed to identify, reward and spotlight groundbreaking video entertainment on the Web, is looking for opinionated works of documentary film and citizen journalism that can take advantage of the unique capabilities of Web-based media. The selected creators will receive production funding of up to $20,000 and the resources to expand their idea and be featured on Webshots, one of the Internet's most active photo and video sharing communities.
People have been saying for the past year or two that inexpensive digital cameras and the proliferation of camera phones would change the face of journalism. We want to give people the platform and resources to make that a reality. We’re hoping to find the next Michael Moore or filmmakers that have the passion of Morgan Spurlock. Project Spotlight wants to help bring visibility to important issues and give people the opportunity to expose issues of importance to them and their communities on Webshots.
To submit your proposal, upload a representative video clip to Webshots video and send a link (for public videos) or invitation to view (for private videos), plus a 100-word proposal, to spotlight@webshots.com More information: www.webshots.com/spotlight.html.
The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2007 at 11:59PM Pacific Time.
