The Krasny Show, KQED Forum, is our site of the day
Well known to those who receive its radio signal in Northern California, Michael Krasny and the Forum broadcast is also available to anyone near a computer in or out of California.
You can listen to the show live over the net—and it is well worth it. You can also get streaming audio from the archives and listen to past broadcasts as well as subscribe to podcasts and get an rss feed of the schedule of future broadcasts. There is a neat function where you can search an extensive list of previous shows by using keywords.
Yesterday, April 11, there was a lively and very informative program
about the possibility of a universal health insurance plan for California in light of the one passed in Massachusetts. SB 840 and the politics surrounding it were discussed.
On April 10 there were two hour long programs packed full of information on earthquakes, in light of the centennial of the 1906 San Francisco quake. Risks for the entire state were discussed and important public policy implications were there by the bucket.
First, there was a look at the science behind earthquakes and the particular vulnerability of California. This included a lively discussion about our ability to forecast future earthquakes.
The second show dealt with how prepared we are for a major earthquake, and what impact an earthquake will have on the economy, culture and lives of Californians. This included how we as a state are working to ready ourselves in the event of a natural catastrophe, and issues such as building safety, retrofitting, water supply and communication between local, state and federal governments.
This Friday, April 14, proposals to limit California’s greenhouse gas emissions, tied to global warming, will be discussed with an advisor to Governor Schwarzenegger, an expert from Environmental Defense, a representative of the California Chamber of Commerce, and a professor.
Forum is an award-winning live program which presents multifaceted discussions of local, state, national, and world issues as well as in-depth interviews with leading figures in politics, science, entertainment, and the arts.
Forum airs Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 am on KQED 88.5FM. Forum's listeners are invited to call-in during the show at 415-863-2476. The toll-free number is: 866-SF-FORUM (866-733-6786).
