Speaker Núñez Makes Statement Regarding Workers’ Comp

01 086.gif

Two Years After Overhaul, Legitimately Injured Workers are Still Being Shortchanged

Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D-Los Angeles) yesterday made the following statement urging the Governor to work with the Legislature to reform workers’ comp in a way that assists truly injured workers:

“Workers comp reforms have been a mixed bag. On one hand, the rates employers are paying for workers comp costs have decreased significantly. However, it’s clear that some legitimately injured workers are getting shortchanged. For the past two years insurers have been profiting while many injured workers have been suffering.

“Our intent was to fix the system to lower rates and preserve benefits. Only half of that equation has come true. After two years of having legitimately injured workers receive less than adequate benefits, it is time for the Governor to work with the Legislature and make the changes necessary to provide adequate benefits to the injured worker. We’re not asking to open up a Pandora’s box, simply to make sure that workers get the benefits they deserve.”

Having insurances and buying into the idea of having insurances is suppose to be an act of being RESPONSIBLE and preserving our DIGNITY.

Workers have paid their dues to the insurance industries. Workers have paid their dues in taxes to make sure our rights are protected.

To imply get that we deserve FAIR benefits and to get this government permission to get such benefits ones we become qualified to file a claim is just flat out WRONG.

Let me remind you.....Workers are not out to get a more or less than their fair shake. Workers gave their rights to sue employers and WORKERS help to open a new market for insurance company (workers comp insurance)who have exploited and extorted from the public for profits and have placed the insurance industry as the MOST profitable business on EARTH.

AMERICAN workers are not out to get a hand-out. WE have worked all our life to get to where we want to be. We worked every penny so that we can pay our insurance dues, pay our taxes, insure our interest, have our home, put our children to school, pay our property taxes so that we can get school and live in a safe environment....NOT to get SWINDLED by our government through the misuse of our taxes and renig on their promises AND to allow the INSURANCE company to get away with what they have done to the injured workers. AMERICA, insurance is a FALSE sense of SECURITY. Our government has flat-out allowed the insurance industry to "SHORT-CHANGED" our injured workers. Allowing this outrageous injustices to continue means giving up your OWN future, if you ever get injured.

WORKERS should NOT have to beg for WHAT they are ENTITLED to. It is NOT dignified.

This is a CRIME on our civilized society, when our government and insurance company RENIGS on their promises when it is come due.

WE ARE TAXPAYERS,,,we paid our DUES.

Watching another human being suffer at the hands of cold, indecisive insurance companies is as close to criminal as you can get. Medical treatment is a right that workers should not have to beg for. This is a pathetic state of affairs. Workers who are not getting adequate medical care because of red tape is nothing short of criminal. It should be treated as such.
